Arriving by Train – Stuttgart Main Station

If you come from Germany or Europe, using the train may be an option. There are (direct) high-speed train links to Stuttgart from many German cities and from several European destination, including Paris and Vienna. When arriving at Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Stuttgart main station), follow the signs to the S-Bahn station (green S symbol, see S-Bahn Stuttgart). Trains to University normally leave from track 101, which is underground. Take one of the trains S1, S2, or S3 with destinations Böblingen, Filderstadt, Flughafen/Messe, Herrenberg, or Vaihingen. Exit the train at the stop Stuttgart Universität (University) and use the exit Universitätszentrum. The S-Bahn ride to University takes about 10 minutes. Arriving by Plane – Stuttgart Airport (STR)

From Stuttgart Airport (STR) it is only a 16 minutes train ride to the lab. When you arrive at the airport, leave the baggage claim area towards the train station (S-Bahn). Before using the stairs/escalator down to the platform, use one of the blue/red/grey ticket vending machines (Fahrkarten/Tickets) to get a ticket for public transport. To get to the conference venue, enter Stuttgart Universität as destination (2 zones, € 2.60 adults), and take any train (S2 or S3) that runs towards city center (Stadtmitte/Innenstadt) and main station (Hauptbahnhof). Normally, these trains run from platform 2. During normal hours (05:08 to 22:08) there is a train at least every 20 minutes (minutes :08, :18, :38, and :48). Get off the train at the stop Stuttgart Universität (University) and use the exit Universitätszentrum. From there the way to building is sign posted or have a look at the map. You can also take a taxi (about € 31.00, depending on time of day, traffic situation, and duration of the trip), but it is likely that public transport is faster.

Arriving by Plane – Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

By train, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is about 90 minutes away from Stuttgart. During normal hours, there are connections with high-speed trains (ICE) at least every hour. When arriving at Frankfurt Airport, please proceed to the long-distance rail station (Fernbahnhof). You will need to buy a ticket to Stuttgart University (regular fare for ICE, 2nd class, single ride is € 61.00). You can buy these tickets either at one of the blue/red/grey ticket vending machines (Fahrkarten/Tickets) or even buy it online at www.bahn.com. Arriving by Plane – Stuttgart Main Station (ZWS)

Code-sharing on Trains between Frankfurt Airport and Stuttgart Main Station: If you are flying via Frankfurt, some of the Lufthansa flights to Stuttgart are actually trains that are operated by Deutsche Bahn in co-operation with Lufthansa. To find out if you are booked on of these trains, check the code of your destination airport. If the destination of your flight is ZWS, you are using an ICE high-speed train from Frankfurt Airport to Stuttgart main station or vice versa. If you are using one of these trains, please check your baggage tag at check-in: If the destination of your bag is stated as ZWS/Stuttgart, you need to pick up your bags close to the long-distance train station at Frankfurt Airport (not Stuttgart!). If your bags are check to FRA/Frankfurt, please follow the signs to the regular baggage claim at Frankfurt Airport. If your flight starts at ZWS/Stuttgart main station, you need to pick up your boarding cards at Stuttgart main station.
